The coronavirus does not stop at the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Despite all efforts by Dana White, president of the U.S. Martial Arts Organization, there will be no UFC events in the coming weeks.
The premier class of MMA sports has to pause and for the time being cancels the next three events in a row.
The UFC rejection not only affects die-hard MMA fans. With the thin sports program, it is particularly difficult for sports fans with an affinity for bets to find sports that have not been canceled by the coronavirus. The betting base info article on the corona virus provides an overview of the sports currently affected.
How it will continue with the UFC is still completely open. The United States recently imposed an entry ban on EU citizens. Accordingly, it would not have been possible for the UFC to compile an international fight card anyway. The UFC postponement of the events was therefore to be expected, especially since the UFC APEX – training area of the organization – is no longer available.
“Obviously, we can no longer have fights in APEX. We’re looking for a new venue, probably in the United States. […] As long as there is no complete shutdown in the whole country […] we will host the events. ” – Dana White (UFC President)
Dana White wanted to host the events in the Las Vegas UFC training hall without an audience. The Nevada Athletes’ Commission, however, thwarted the UFC president. To what extent the UFC can prevent long-term cancellation by Corona is still uncertain. No events from the US MMA organization will take place until April 18.
